The Springfield XD-S was the single-stack that made a slim, easy-to-conceal 9mm and .45 mainstream, and it is still carried in huge numbers. It comes with a 3.3-inch barrel, in the original and the MOD.2 update, and with a 4-inch barrel. The 3.3 and MOD.2 share a slide; the 4-inch does not. We make a kydex IWB holster for each, and this guide covers which fits what and how to carry a thin gun that is taller than it looks.

3.3, MOD.2, or 4-inch?
The MOD.2 changed the grip texture and the sights but kept the 3.3-inch slide, so one holster covers the original 3.3 and the MOD.2 3.3 in 9mm and .40. The 4-inch XD-S has a longer slide and needs the dedicated mold. Read the barrel length off the slide before ordering. The holsters are molded without a weapon light.
The holsters, reviewed
1. Clip & Carry IWB Holster for the XD-S 3.3" and MOD.2 3.3"
Molded in .08-inch kydex to the 3.3-inch slide with folded edges, a full-length sweat shield, and an audible click. Belt clip cants 20 degrees either direction, retention is set with screws, and the screw spacing accepts a claw. Handmade in the U.S.A. by a military veteran, right or left hand, black or carbon-fiber pattern, lifetime guarantee.
2. Clip & Carry IWB Holster for the XD-S 4"
Same construction molded to the 4-inch slide. The extra length is the reason most 4-inch owners carry strong side rather than appendix.
How to carry an XD-S
Appendix
The 3.3-inch XD-S is one of the thinnest guns you can carry at appendix. Set the clip near neutral. The grip is tall for a single-stack, so a claw helps under a light shirt.
Strong side
Fifteen to twenty degrees of forward cant at 3 or 4 o'clock. The 4-inch model lives here.
The grip safety
The XD-S has a grip safety on the backstrap. The holster is molded to the gun and does not press it.
