The Ruger LCR is the modern snub-nose: a polymer-and-aluminum frame, a smooth double-action trigger that people buy the gun for, and a 1.87-inch barrel in a package that weighs less than most pocket autos. It is also a revolver, which means most kydex makers skip it. We make an IWB holster molded to the 2-inch LCR in .38 Special, and this guide covers how it fits, how to carry a lightweight revolver, and what to check before ordering.

Holstering a revolver
A revolver holster has a different job than an auto holster. There is no slide to grip along its length, so retention comes from the cylinder and trigger guard, and the mold has to be exact or the gun rattles. The cylinder also makes the gun wider at the middle than at either end, which is why a molded shell holds a revolver far better than any soft holster: the kydex wraps the cylinder and clicks over it. The LCR's hammerless profile helps too. Nothing snags on the draw.

Clip & Carry IWB Holster for the Ruger LCR .38 2"
Molded in .08-inch kydex to the 2-inch LCR, with the cylinder pocket formed so the gun clicks in and holds. Folded edges, a full-length sweat shield, a belt clip that cants 20 degrees either direction, and retention screws you can loosen or tighten. Handmade in the U.S.A. by a military veteran, right or left hand, black or carbon-fiber pattern, lifetime guarantee. If you carry the SP101 or a Kimber K6, we make dedicated molds for those as well.
How to carry an LCR
Appendix
The LCR's light weight and short barrel make it an easy appendix gun. Set the clip to neutral. The rounded grip prints less than an auto's squared one.
Strong side
Fifteen degrees of forward cant at 3 or 4 o'clock. The cylinder sits at the belt line and disappears under a shirt.
Why not pocket carry?
The LCR is a classic pocket gun, and a pocket holster works. An IWB is faster to draw, keeps the trigger fully covered regardless of what else is in your pocket, and does not collapse when the gun comes out.
Frequently asked questions
Does this fit the LCR .357 or LCRx?
This holster is molded to the 2-inch .38 Special LCR. The .357 LCR has a steel frame with slightly different dimensions, and the LCRx has an exposed hammer and, in some versions, a 3-inch barrel. Check your model before ordering.
Does it fit the LCR with a Crimson Trace grip?
The holster grips the cylinder and trigger guard, not the grip, so most grip changes do not affect fit.
Is there a left-hand version?
Yes.
Can I adjust the retention?
Yes, with the retention screws.
Do you make holsters for other revolvers?
Yes: the Ruger SP101 in 2 and 3 inch, the Kimber K6 in 2 and 3 inch, and the Smith & Wesson J-Frame.
The bottom line
A lightweight revolver deserves a molded holster that grips the cylinder. The LCR IWB holster does that, adjusts for cant and retention, and is guaranteed for life.
