Adding a pocket clip to a Swiss Army knife used to mean drilling the scales or epoxying a clip to them, and either one ruined a knife that did not deserve it. The SwissQlip attaches to a 91mm Victorinox without tools or modification, in about a minute. This guide shows how, what it fits, and the alternatives if you have a different size knife.
What you need
A 91mm Victorinox Swiss Army knife and a SwissQlip, $19.99, in chrome or black. No tools.
How to install it
- Confirm your knife is a 91mm model. Measure the closed length: 91mm is about 3.6 inches. The Tinker, Spartan, Huntsman, Climber, Explorer, Fieldmaster, Ranger and Swiss Champ are all 91mm.
- Orient the SwissQlip so the clip faces the side of the knife you want against the pocket seam, for right- or left-hand carry.
- Slide the SwissQlip onto the knife over the scales, following the instructions in the package. It seats against the frame and holds by fit.
- Check that every tool still opens fully. The clip sits clear of the tool slots.
- Clip it in the pocket. The knife rides deep, below the pocket edge.
To remove it
Slide it back off. Nothing is drilled, glued or bent, so the knife is unchanged.
If your knife is not 91mm
- 58mm (Classic, Classic SD, Rally, Jetsetter): the SwissLinQ, a keychain dock that lets you detach the knife with one motion. $6.99.
- 84mm and 111mm: no clip-on option; a leather or kydex belt pouch.
- SwissTool and Spirit: a molded kydex belt sheath.
