Best Tactical Sling Bags for a Pistol (That Don't Look Tactical)

The point of a sling bag for a pistol is a gun you can reach in two motions, swing and draw, in clothes with no belt. The problem with most of them is that they are built like a plate carrier and everyone knows what is in them. This guide covers the three concealed carry slings we sell, all in plain fabric and plain colors, plus a range bag for getting four pistols to the range, and how to carry from a sling so the draw actually works.

The bags

Elite Survival Systems Avenger Concealment Gun Pack

The most gun-focused of the three: 1000-denier nylon, 6.5 by 9 by 4 inches, a main compartment that is an adjustable holster fitting most handguns, an accessory compartment with magazine loops and a key hook, and a flat front pocket. Carries on the included strap, by the handle, or on a belt. Black, coyote tan or heather gray. $67.95.

Elite Survival Systems Microguard Mini Crossbody

The smallest: 8 by 6 by 1.5 inches, 6 ounces, with a concealed compartment holding an adjustable holster and magazine loops, and a forward pocket for everything else. For a compact or micro pistol. $43.46.

Elite Survival Systems HIP Gunner

A fanny pack that wears as a sling: 9.5 by 5 by 2-inch gun compartment with a rip-cord front that opens in one pull, two ambidextrous holsters for up to a full-size pistol, magazine loops, and a 53-inch strap that works on the waist or across the chest. Black, heather gray or stripe. $45.47.

Elite Survival Systems Four Gun Pistol Pack

Not a carry bag: a discreet range case with two compartments that each hold two pistols with magazine loops, accessory pockets and a molded handle. For the trip to the range. $99.95.

How to draw from a sling

  1. Wear it to the front in a crowd or when seated, to the back only when walking somewhere quiet.
  2. Support hand grabs the bag and steadies it; strong hand opens the compartment. On the HIP Gunner the rip cord does this in one pull.
  3. Grip, draw, and step off the line. Practice the whole thing with an unloaded gun until the zipper is not a step you think about.

Off-body carry has one rule that outranks every feature: the bag stays on your body. A gun in a bag on a chair, in a cart, or on a car seat is a gun someone else can pick up. The second rule is that the gun lives in its own compartment, in a holster that covers the trigger, and nothing else goes in there.

Frequently asked questions

Which sling bag draws fastest?

The HIP Gunner, because the rip-cord front opens the compartment in one pull.

Will these fit a Glock 19?

The Avenger and HIP Gunner fit a full-size pistol. The Microguard is for compacts and micro-compacts.

Is off-body carry a good idea?

It is a compromise. It is slower than a belt holster and only as secure as your grip on the bag. It is much better than not carrying, and for some clothes and some days it is the only option.

Does the bag come with a holster?

Every bag listed here includes an adjustable hook-and-loop holster inside the concealed compartment.

Can I put anything else in the gun compartment?

No. The gun and nothing else, so nothing can get into the trigger guard.

The bottom line

The HIP Gunner worn cross-body is the fastest sling draw we sell; the Avenger is the one built around the gun.
