Best Magnetic Gun Mount for Your Car (No Screws)

Every SofHold magnetic gun mount can be installed two ways: screws, or adhesive backing. If you lease your car, drive a company vehicle, or just do not want to put holes in the dash, the adhesive is the answer, and it holds well enough if you do it right. This guide covers how to mount a gun magnet with no screws, where it works, and where you should still use the screws.

The mount

SofHold Magnetic Gun Mount

Neodymium magnet rated at over 50 pounds of pull, wrapped in top-grain leather so it does not scratch a finish, and it mounts with screws or adhesive backing, so you can screw it down or stick it. Works with any steel-slide handgun, including Glock, Sig, Smith & Wesson, Springfield, Ruger, Beretta and Taurus. Money-back guarantee. $45. The Armed and Beautiful, 9mm and In God We Trust versions are the same magnet with different leather.

How to install without screws

  1. Pick a flat, hard surface. Adhesive fails on textured soft-touch plastic and on curves. Under the dash, look for a flat panel; on the console, the vertical side.
  2. Clean it with isopropyl alcohol. Armor All and dust are why adhesive lets go. Wipe, let it dry.
  3. Warm the surface if it is cold. Adhesive bonds best above 60°F.
  4. Press for 60 seconds, then wait 24 hours before hanging a gun on it. Mounting adhesive reaches full strength over a day.
  5. Orient the draw sideways. Mount so the gun's weight and your draw pull along the adhesive, not straight off it. Shear strength is far higher than peel strength.

Where adhesive works

Under the dash, on a flat console side, on the inside of a glove box door, and anywhere in the home: desk, nightstand, safe door, closet wall. In a car it holds a pistol reliably if the surface is flat and clean.

Where to use the screws anyway

Doors, seats, and anywhere textured. Trucks and anything that sees dirt roads. And any surface that gets hot sun through the windshield, because adhesive softens before neodymium does.

Frequently asked questions

How much will the adhesive hold?

Mounted on a clean flat surface with the load in shear, it holds a full-size pistol through normal driving.

Will the adhesive damage the dash?

Warm it with a hair dryer and peel slowly; adhesive comes off plastic clean.

Can I use both?

Yes. Adhesive to hold it in place while you drive the screws is the easiest install.

Will it scratch my gun?

No. The leather cover keeps steel off the magnet.

Is the magnet safe for electronics?

Keep it a few inches from a phone or key fob. It will not hurt the car.

The bottom line

A SofHold mount on clean flat plastic with the adhesive backing, loaded sideways, is a no-drill car holster that holds. Use the screws in a truck or a door.
