Belly Band Holster for Women: A Practical Guide

Belly band holsters solve a real problem for women who carry: how to conceal comfortably across very different outfits without relying on a sturdy belt. Here is how to choose one that actually works.

Why belly bands work well for women

They do not need a belt, they adjust to your body, and they conceal under dresses, leggings, and looser tops where a belt holster will not. You can set them up for appendix, hip, or higher carry.

What to look for

  • A rigid kydex shell that fully covers the trigger for safety and a repeatable draw.
  • Comfort and breathability so you wear it all day.
  • Adjustability across waist sizes and carry positions.

Our STRAPT-TAC belly band uses a hard kydex holster instead of a soft pocket, which is the biggest safety and speed upgrade in this category.

Make it work for you

Try a few positions and practice your draw. For the full category overview, see our best belly band holsters guide, and browse everyday carry.

The trigger-coverage test (do this before you carry)

Put the gun in the band the way you will wear it, then press a finger into the fabric over the trigger from the outside. If you can feel the trigger move, the band does not protect it and nothing about elastic or a strap changes that. This is the difference between a belly band with a pouch and one that holds a rigid kydex holster: in the STRAPT-TAC the trigger is covered by molded kydex and the gun clicks in, so it passes the test the way a belt holster does. Two more forum-tested checks: turn the band upside down and shake it (the holster should hold the gun), and draw through the shirt you will actually wear, ten times, to see whether the band moves when you pull.

Frequently asked questions

Are belly band holsters good for women?

Yes. They conceal across very different outfits, do not need a belt, and adjust to the body, which makes them one of the most flexible carry options.

Is a belly band safe to carry in?

Yes, when it uses a rigid shell that fully covers the trigger guard. Avoid soft fabric-only pockets.

Where do you position a belly band?

Common positions are appendix, strong-side hip, or slightly higher. Try a few and practice your draw to find what conceals and draws best for you.
